## Commentary

Christ Pantocrator 1363 Egg tempera on panel, 106 x 79 cm The Hermitage, St. Petersburg The donors depicted in the margin of the icon were members of the imperial family who founded the Church of the Pantocrator on Mount Athos in 1363, also the date of the creation of the icon. Christ is shown holding a Gospel in his left hand while the right is raised in a gesture of blessing.
