## Commentary

Ever since the sixteenth century, prints or vignette-like illustrations had depicted the lively, if somewhat ragged appearance of street hawkers called The Cries of Paris. Boucher and Bouchardon also tried their hands at this subject. Ravenet&#39;s engraving was made after Boucher.
