# Entrance to a Village [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [BREDAEL, Joseph van]() - Date: 1701-1750 - Technique: Oil on copper, 26 x 34 cm ## Commentary Josef van Bredael continued the tradition of landscape painting established by Jan Brueghel the Elder into the eighteenth century. The present composition derives from a signed work by Brueghel of around 1604. Six versions of the painting by Bredael are known, some of them contain Bredael's own motifs added to Brueghel's original composition.
