A Pietà among the best known, because it is particularly expressive is the one in the Rheinisches Landesmuseum in Bonn \(formerly in the Röttgen Collection\). In this woodcarving the Virgin is shown with the dead Christ in her lap. She is contorted with the agony of loss.
