## Commentary

The Kitchen of the Moulin de la Galette c. 1890 Oil on canvas, 97 x 131 cm Museu Nacional d&#39;Art de Catalunya, Barcelona The Catalan landscape artist Santiago Rusiñol y Prats absorbed the example of Impressionism. He began his studies in Spain and continued them in Paris, where in 1891 he exhibited together with the Impressionists and Symbolists. He was a friend of Toulouse-Lautrec. He paid homage to Impressionism by painting Montmartre. His palette in The Kitchen of the Moulin de la Galette was unusually restrained.
