I 99\), 280 x 215 mm ## Commentary Grimani Breviary 1510s Manuscript \(Ms. lat. I 99\), 280 x 215 mm Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana, Venice The codex is one of the most famous and best known illuminated manuscript. It contains 831 pages with 110 pictures all of them in a decorated frame. The illuminations were executed by several Flemish masters including Alexander and Simon Bening, Hans Memling and Gerard David. Gerard Horenbout illuminated the whole of the Calendar. The picture shows the miniature St Catherine Disputing with the Philosophers from the Grimani Breviary. Even though Jan Gossart did not paint any of the illuminations in the book himself, his name - COSAR\[T\] - is emblazoned on the entablature of the building at the right in the miniature. This was a tribute to Gossart's architectural designs, not an indication of authorship.
