# Portrait of a Couple [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [LOO, Jacob van]() - Date: 1651-1700 - Technique: Oil on canvas, 119 x 156 cm ## Commentary This painting was formerly attributed to Bartholomeus van der Helst, then to Abraham van den Tempel. However, the characteristic rendering of fabric and flattering portrayal of the sitters' features, the animated little dog, all limned in a free, elegant style, is entirely in keeping with the portraits and genre scenes that Van Loo made in Amsterdam in the late 1650s. The sitters are probably Jan Jacobsz. Hinlopen, one of the most influential citizens of Amsterdam of his time, and his wife Leonora Huydecoper.
