## Commentary

This is a detail of the monument to Chancellor René de Biraghe, a slightly later monument than that to Valentine Balbiani, wife of the Chancellor. The naturalistic yet formal interpretation of the kneeling figure of the Chancellor was to set the fashion for many decades.
