# Exterior view [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [ARCHITECT, Italian]() - Date: 1201-1250 - Technique: Photo ## Commentary Ever since the Middle Ages, numerous important monasteries have continued to be built in Anglona, the historic territory in which the village Bulzi lies. In Bulzi, we find one of the most important Romanesque-Pisan examples in the whole of Sardinia, the Church of San Pietro del Crocifisso, part of the complex of an important monastery of which very few traces remain. The church was constructed in Romanesque style between 1113 and 1120. The façade and the apse was reconstructed in the 13th century. The power of Tuscan Romanesque churches assured their adoption beyond the boundaries of the region, Both Pisan traders and Camaldolese and Vallombrosian missionaries transported the rich classicising elevations and polychrome interiors on the Tyrrhenian sea as far as Sardinia. The photo shows the west façade of the church in Bulzi.
