# View of Avignon [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [VERNET, Claude-Joseph]() - Date: 1751-1800 - Technique: Oil on canvas, 99 x 183 cm ## Commentary This canvas represents a view of Avignon, from the right bank of the Rhône near Villeneuve. It is Claude-Joseph Vernet's only recorded view of his birthplace, the city of Avignon. It was exhibited in the Paris Salon in 1759, and was highly admired.
