## Commentary

The Crucifixion c. 1370 Tempera on panel, gold ground, with a shaped top, 57 x 25 cm Private collection This intimate Crucifixion was among the first paintings to be identified as by the Master of the Pietà. It formed the right wing of a diptych, a Madonna and Child enthroned with saints being the other wing. The composition and construction of the diptych suggest that it was intended for private devotion.
