# General view [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [CORTONA, Pietro da]() - Date: 1601-1650 - Technique: Photo ## Commentary Cortona's major late architectural work is the dome of San Carlo al Corso, the Milanese national church in Rome. Its drum shows a brilliant version of the motif of screening columns. Structurally, the buttresses faced with pilasters and adjoining columns form a unit, but aesthetically the rhythm of the buttresses predominates and seems accompanied by that of the open, screened bays. The photo shows the a view from the top of the Spanish Steps.
