# Madonna with Child [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [RAFFAELLO Sanzio]() - Date: 1501-1550 - Technique: Black chalk, blending stump, stylus on paper, 211 x 184 mm ## Commentary This drawing is a compositional study for the painting known as the Granduca Madonna, executed by Raphael during his stay in Florence \(1504-08\). In this sketch, it is possible to follow the creative process of the artist who, before realizing his definitive pictorial composition of the work, considered numerous possibilities.
