# Coronation of the Virgin [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [GHIRLANDAIO, Domenico]() - Date: 1451-1500 - Technique: Fresco ## Commentary The Coronation of the Virgin in the lunette of the window wall is divided into three levels, and in the middle level especially, where the patriarchs sit enthroned on clouds, it is an important precursor of <A onclick="return OpenOther\('/html/r/raphael/4stanze/1segnatu/2/00disput.html'\)" HREF="/html/r/raphael/4stanze/1segnatu/2/00disput.html">Raphael's Disputa</A> in the Stanza della Segnatura in the Vatican. There is no direct earlier precedent for this presentation of the heavenly hierarchies in different spatial spheres.
