## Commentary

Barberini Gospels 750-800 Manuscript \(Ms. Barb. lat. 570\) Biblioteca Apostolica, Vatican This English manuscript is likely to have been carried to the Continent soon after it was written in the second half of the eighth century. The miniature shown here represents St John writing a manuscript on his lap, with a pen in one hand and a knife in the other, , apparently seated in the open air.
