## Commentary

This painting depicts a view of the Susa Valley, Piedmont, with a shepherd and mother and child in the foreground, other figures in a boat and on the bank of a river beyond. Scipione Cignaroli depicted this view of the Susa Valley, Piedmont, from the area including the towns of Sant&#39;Ambrogio di Torino and Avigliana, on a number of occasions.
