## Commentary

St Bartholomew and St Sebastian c. 1509 Oil on canvas, 293 x 137 cm \(each\) San Bartolomeo, Venice The two saints are on the outer face of the shutters of the organ in the church of San Bartolomeo. When closed, the shutters debate the theoretical aspects of the relationship of the arts, imparting to the painting the precise definition of a single architectural space for the two figures, which are depicted as imposing ancient statues.
