# Raising of Lazarus \(south wall, detail\) [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [GIOVANNI DA MILANO]() - Date: 1301-1350 - Technique: Fresco ## Commentary The Raising of Lazarus was the last of the frescoes Giovanni da Milano executed in the Rinuccini Chapel and it clearly deviates from the pictorial tradition. The city gate of Bethany is included in the scene. Standing within it are Pharisees who watch in astonishment as Lazarus climbs out of the sarcophagus at Christ's words and sign of blessing while two of the apostles assembled at the right help him by pulling heavily on his garment.
