## Commentary

Landscape with Christ and a Centurion 1652 Oil on canvas, 77 x 134 cm The Hermitage, St. Petersburg Pierre Patel \(the Elder\) was principally famous for his landscape panels, which were incorporated into the decoration of rooms as in the Cabinet de l&#39;Amour at the Hôtel Lambert. His compositions contain a mixture of architecture and pure landscape, and show that he had some understanding of Claude Lorrain.
