## Commentary

This painting is the left half of a diptych with a Christ Carrying the Cross. This likeness exhibits an enamel-like finish and pale pinkish flash tone. The exaggerated creases at the base of Ulner&#39;s middle finger seem to have been an idiosyncrasy of Barthel Bruyn the Younger&#39;s approach to hands and appear in other works attributed to him.
