## Commentary

In this painting we note the artist&#39;s interest in colour, evident even before his move to Venice in 1630. Soft and delicately graduated pastel tones are emphasized by the light against a dark background. Strozzi also uses chiaroscuro in a way which recalls Caravaggesque tenebrism, creating strong contrasts of light and shade in the folds of the dress.
