Battle between Heraclius and Chosroes \(detail\) 1452-66 Fresco San Francesco, Arezzo There are soldiers dressed in Roman style, with very colourful and fanciful costumes. These soldiers run through their enemies, who are seemingly defenseless in their elegant civilian clothes, not battle dress, and try to protect themselves with very light-weight shields, in vain. The armoured horsemen coming from the left seem to play a decisive role in the outcome of the battle.
