## Commentary

Following Vincenzo de&#39; Rossi&#39;s example, Giambologna executed some of the scenes from the series of twelve labours of Hercules. However, by contrast to De&#39; Rossi, he never had any intention of finishing a whole series. Antonio Susini made the bronze Hercules and the Centaur after the design by Giambologna. It is an open question whether this bronze is a reduction of Giambologna&#39;s marble or the marble is an expansion of the earlier bronze.
