# Helmeted Head of a Youth, and Other Studies \(recto\) [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [MICHELANGELO Buonarroti]() - Date: 1501-1550 - Technique: Pen and brown ink, black pencil, 205 x 253 mm ## Commentary The present sheet contains several partly sketchy, partly carefully executed studies, the largest being a youthful head with a fanciful helmet. A connection was pointed out with the cartoon of the <a onclick="return OpenOther\('/html/m/michelan/4drawing/02/01cascin.html'\)" href="/html/m/michelan/4drawing/02/01cascin.html">Battle of Cascina.</a> Michelangelo was certainly also familiar with <a onclick="return OpenOther\('/html/l/leonardo/08heads/01helmet.html'\)" href="/html/l/leonardo/08heads/01helmet.html">Leonardo's portraits of warriors</a> clad in fantastic armours.
