# The 'Tinted Venus' [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [GIBSON, John]() - Date: 1801-1850 - Technique: Marble with slight pigmentation, height 175 cm ## Commentary Britain's principal sculptor in the 1850s, John Gibson spent most of his time in Rome, where he devoted himself to a kind of sculpture that was deeply influenced by Thorvaldsen.
