## Commentary

The painter was influenced by Manet. Like Manet in the &lt;a onclick=&#34;return OpenOther\(&#39;/html/m/manet/1/1early02.html&#39;\)&#34; href=&#34;/html/m/manet/1/1early02.html&#34;&gt;Nymph Surprised&lt;/a&gt; he placed a sitting nude by a stream, and as in &lt;a onclick=&#34;return OpenOther\(&#39;/html/m/manet/1/5dejeun1.html&#39;\)&#34; href=&#34;/html/m/manet/1/5dejeun1.html&#34;&gt;Manet&#39;s Dejeuner sur l&#39;herbe,&lt;/a&gt; nudes and a figure in modern dress are present in a rural setting.
