# Virgin and Child [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [SILOÉ, Diego de]() - Date: 1501-1550 - Technique: Marble ## Commentary Diego de Siloé was directly influenced by the Italian style. He travelled through Italy in his youth, was employed in Rome, where he saw the sculptures of Michelangelo, and also in Naples, where he worked with his fellow-countryman, Ordóñez. However, on his return to Spain his style became more Spanish. The relief of the seated Virgin clearly shows the influence of Michelangelo.
