## Commentary

Pérez differed from other flower specialists in being an able figure painter who probably painted his own figures in the centre of many of his floral garlands. This skill would help to explain his very inventive attitude to garland paintings. In this painting he represents the figure of saint as realistic-looking unframed easel paintings and in this way enhances the realism of the flowers that decorate it.
