# Interior view [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [ARCHITECT, French]() - Date: 1201-1250 - Technique: Photo ## Commentary One of the most ambitious of all Gothic cathedrals was to be built in Beauvais, one that was based on the most magnificent models. The spatial structure of Bourges was adopted, with its staggered aisles, which increase sharply in height as they move toward the centre. At the same time, the building has a close affinity to Amiens, begun only a few years before. The building of the choir began in 1225 and the interior space finally reached the record height of over 48 metres. In 1272 this choir was ready to use but twelve years later, in 1284, it collapsed. It was rebuilt after 1284 and again in 1573.
