## Commentary

Formerly, this painting was in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. It was sold for the Acquisitions Fund in 2013. Heavily influenced by Bernardino Fungai and developing a style which is indebted in turn to Benvenuto di Giovanni and Girolamo di Benvenuto, Pietro di Domenico worked within the standard Sienese context of the time but was not always able to reach the high level of his more distinguished counterparts.
