## Commentary

The tabernacle was commissioned by the nuns of Sant&#39;Ambrogio. It was intended for a new chapel dedicated to the important Eucharistic relic situated to the left of the choir. In the tabernacle relief, eight nun and a novice are shown on the left side of the composition, kneeling in prayer before the relic, counterbalanced by a separate group of male worshippers on the right.
