# Filippo Strozzi [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [SPINELLI, Niccolò di Forzore]() - Date: 1451-1500 - Technique: Cast copper alloy, diameter 9 cm ## Commentary In his medallic profile portrait, Filippo Strozzi \(1428-1491\) is depicted substantially older than in his <a onclick="return OpenOther\('/html/b/benedett/bust1.html'\)" href="/html/b/benedett/bust1.html">marble bust by Benedetto da Maiano.</a> The wrinkles across his forehead have multiplied and the skin along his jowls and beneath his chin has slackened. Once attributed to Benedetto da Maiano on the basis of his other portraits of Filippo, the medal is now associated with the late fifteenth-century medalist Niccolò di Forzore Spinelli \(Niccolò Fiorentino\), whose attributed oeuvre includes medals with similar bird reverse. On the finely executed reverse, a molting falcon splays its wings in a pastoral landscape.
