## Commentary

Studies of a Male Torso c. 1540 Black chalk, 204 x 138 mm British Museum, London It is possible that Polidoro da Caravaggio based this drawing on studies of this kind by Michelangelo. This would possibly confirm a journey by Polidoro from Messina to Rome shortly before his death. According to Vasari, however, the journey was planned but never taken.
