## Commentary

This engraving from the book known as the Petit Marot shows the château of Richelieu \(Indre-et-Loire\) from the garden side. It gives an idea of the general character of the ensemble, with the buildings of the office block in front of the château itself disappearing into the distance on the left. The château was designed by Jacques Lemercier \(1585-1654\), its construction begun in 1631 and demolished in 1805.
