## Commentary

Between 1539 and 1561 Berruguete worked in Toledo, where he came into contact with Bigarny. He received the commission for the execution of half the choir-stalls in the Cathedral. Two registers, one in alabaster and one in walnut, are decorated with panels showing figures from the Old Testament. On the reproduction shown here the upper part was carved by Berruguete.
