## Commentary

Multiple trees portrayed in realistic detail are seen in this study by the Lombard painter Aurelio Luini, the son of Bernardino Luini. This sheet evidences the continuation of a Leonardesque, descriptive mode of drawing from nature into the last decades of the sixteenth century.
