## Commentary

The pair of pictures depicting Stag Hunt and Boar Hunt are among the few paintings Oudry executed on wood panel. They are probably presentation models with a commission in mind. These hunting scenes appear much more controlled in composition and palette than in the artist&#39;s previous animal and still-life subjects.
