## Commentary

This drawing - thought to be a self-portrait - is a study for the head of the figure in the upper right of Pontormo&#39;s Deposition in the Cappella Capponi in Santa Felicità, Florence. Unlike the other preliminary sketches for the altarpiece, this drawing is highly finished, with a subtle rendering of the highlights of the face.
