# Ferdinand III and Beatrice of Hohenstaufen [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [MEDIEVAL SCULPTOR, Spanish]() - Date: 1251-1300 - Technique: Stone ## Commentary The columns and galleries of the cloister are adorned with groups of statues that illustrate the diversity of Gothic sculpture of the period. Next to the entrance of the cloister in the north wing, a royal bridal couple, who may be identified as Ferdinand and Beatrice \(or Alfonso X and Doña Violante\), commemorate the founding of the new cathedral. This group is especially noteworthy.
