PIERO DELLA FRANCESCA \(b. 1416, Borgo San Sepolcro, d. 1492, Borgo San Sepolcro\) Polyptych of the Misericordia: St Benedict 1445-62 Oil and tempera on panel, 54 x 21 cm Pinacoteca Comunale, Sansepolcro This panel in the upper tier of the polyptych represents St Benedict of Nursia, honoured by the Roman Catholic Church as the patron saint of Europe and students.
