## Commentary

Party of Merrymakers c. 1638 Oil on panel, 38 x 50 cm Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York Until 1990, this painting was attributed to Pieter Codde. It indeed shows similarities with &lt;a onclick=&#34;return OpenOther\(&#39;/html/c/codde/dancingl.html&#39;\)&#34; href=&#34;/html/c/codde/dancingl.html&#34;&gt;Codde&#39;s work.&lt;/a&gt; The fireplace on the right with the satyrlike atlantes figure can be compared with that in Gabriel Metsu&#39;s &lt;a onclick=&#34;return OpenOther\(&#39;/html/m/metsu/musical.html&#39;\)&#34; href=&#34;/html/m/metsu/musical.html&#34;&gt;Musical Party.&lt;/a&gt; This figure provides the only commentary in the picture on the company&#39;s character.
