## Commentary

Despite periods of financial crisis, the output of engravings and tapestries, as well as wall and ceiling paintings, never ceased, recording images of the monarchy's ceremonies and festivities in a noble, allegorical style. Under Louis XV, Charles-Nicolas Cochin the Younger, son of Watteau's engraver, was specifically appointed Drawer-Engraver of the Revels, and with his father published the large plates of the Dauphin's wedding before going on to occupy a leading position at the Academy of Painting.
