## Commentary

The present portrait of Charles I \(1600-1649\) is the prime version of one of the standard types of royal portraits that the artist painted in London between the king&#39;s accession to the throne in 1625 and Mijtens departure from London in 1634. There are several versions \(workshop replicas and copies\) of this portrait.
