## Commentary

Son of Jacopo del Sellaio, Arcangelo took over the family workshop following his father&#39;s death in 1493. He assimilated Jacopo’s style and, eschewing the more Mannerist tendencies of his contemporaries, adopted a deliberately archaic approach to painting.
