# Virgin and Child [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [UNKNOWN MASTER, French]() - Date: 1451-1500 - Technique: Painted wood ## Commentary At the end of the 15th century and at the beginning of the 16th, Burgundian sculpture became subdued in its turn, but adopted a homely, gentle style quite unlike the idealistic art of the Loire region. The Virgin in the Musée Rolin at Autun is typical of the new feeling that permeated the Autun workshops in the last decades of the 15th century.
