## Commentary

Ouwater painted a number of views of the Munttoren, or Mint Tower during the 1770s. The Tower, which takes its name from its use as a Mint between 1672-3 during the war with Louis XIV of France, was rebuilt following a fire in 1618, to a design by Hendrick de Keyser.
