# The Wenceslas Bible [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [MINIATURIST, Bohemian]() - Date: 1351-1400 - Technique: Manuscript \(Codex Vindobonensis 2759-2764\), 530 x 365 mm ## Commentary Wenceslas IV, King of Bohemia \(1361-1419\) was a collector of illustrated manuscripts. Unfortunately, only a few of the manuscripts in his library survived. One outstanding example is the Wenceslas Bible, which, despite being unfinished is a work of monumental scope: 1176 illuminated folios in 6 volumes. Common to all of Wenceslas's books is the dominance of border decoration. On folio 2v, the initial letter of Genesis stretches along the full length of the page.
