# Monument of Sixtus IV: Perspective [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [POLLAIUOLO brothers]() - Date: 1451-1500 - Technique: Bronze ## Commentary This allegorical figure is one of the reliefs on the side of the Tomb of Sixtus IV. The figure of Perspective holds a book, an astrolabe, and an oak branch, because the pope was a member of the Della Rovere family, whose name means oak. The astrolabe suggests that during the Renaissance navigation and exploration were considered part of the discipline of Perspective.
