# Sketch for frieze of the Galleria Farnese [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [CARRACCI, Annibale]() - Date: 1551-1600 - Technique: Pen and ink and wash, 270 x 242 mm ## Commentary Annibale Carracci experienced with the motif of a niche with a statue in this drawing that shows the famous Farnese Hercules, a statue that, as a showpiece of the family's collection, was evidently to be invoked in painted form on the ceiling.
