# Diptych [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [MASTER of the Codex of Saint George]() - Date: 1301-1350 - Technique: Tempera and gold on panel, 28 x 15 cm \(each wing\) ## Commentary Diptych c. 1315 Tempera and gold on panel, 28 x 15 cm \(each wing\) Private collection The Master of the Codex of St George is named for a volume from an illuminated missal in the Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana. This jewel-like diptych is in a a remarkably pure state of preservation and complete with its original frame. The left panel depicts the Virgin and Child Enthroned with a Donor, while the right panel shows the Crucifixion with a Donor. The Florentine roots of the Master's style are even more apparent in this diptych than in any other works by him.
